DIY: How To Easily Transform a Boring and Narrow Hallway With a Quick Accent Wall!
Hallways always seem to stump people when it comes to decorating and I totally get it. The space is narrow and there are lots of doorways.
My hallway is still a work-in-process. We plan to add board and batten as well as a runner. But, the first project we did was to add a painted accent wall to the end. It gives so much interest and provides a focal point.
I get compliments on it all the time and many people think it’s wallpaper at first glance. This painted project cost me less than $20 and only a couple of hours but it packs a big style punch. Read on for the step-by-step tutorial.
Supplies:
- Two wall paint colors
- 1” wide square tip paintbrush
- Painter’s tape
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
Step One
Paint your wall with the background paint color and let it dry. I did two coats.
Step Two
Measure how tall you would like your paint dashes then mark where each line of painter’s tape will go.
Step Three
Apply painter’s tape to the marked-off lines and make sure the edges of the tape are firmly attached to the wall.
Step Four
Wet your paintbrush slightly with water then dip in your second paint color. Start painting dashes across each row. I dipped my brush every three or four strokes because I wanted some variation in the transparency of the dashes.
Step Five
Take off the tape and let it dry fully. Once dry, accessorize!
